Heavy Lift & Project Cargo Mentorship Programme

Real-Time Project Learning with Industry Experts

We are delighted to launch a brand-new mentorship initiative designed to strengthen skills, confidence, and real-world understanding among the next generation of heavy lift and project cargo professionals.

This unique programme pairs less-experienced personnel with seasoned industry experts and gives them the rare opportunity to follow a live, in-progress project from start to finish.

Rather than learning from hypothetical scenarios, participants will gain first-hand insight into the decisions, challenges, and solutions that shape a genuine heavy lift or complex logistics operation.

Each mentorship team will hold a dedicated call every week at an agreed time to review the past week of the project. These sessions will explore:

> Any operational challenges or special client requests, and how they were resolved
> Progress updates, milestones and whether the project is tracking on schedule
> Methods used in the movement of cargo and the reasoning behind them
> Pricing structures, costing considerations, and financial decision-making
> Compliance, safety, and documentation requirements
> Key lessons learned throughout the week

This real-time, week-by-week structure continues until the project’s completion, allowing mentees to witness the full lifecycle of a heavy lift operation, from planning to execution to final delivery.

By offering direct access to the expertise and thought processes of industry experts, this programme aims to provide an invaluable learning platform for less-experienced personnel within our membership.

We look forward to fostering stronger connections, deeper understanding, and a new generation of capable, confident heavy lift specialists through this initiative.

Why Volunteer as a Mentor?

We warmly invite our experienced professionals to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our industry by joining this mentorship initiative. Your knowledge, instincts, and hard-earned expertise are incredibly valuable, not just to your own company, but to the next generation of specialists who are eager to learn from those who have "been there and done it". By giving just one hour each week to walk a mentee through a live project, you’ll help them develop the practical understanding and decision-making skills that only real-world experience can provide. It’s an opportunity to give back, to strengthen the collective capability of our network, and to leave a meaningful legacy in the heavy lift and project cargo community. Read our Handbook for Mentors and Guidance for Weekly Call.

Your leadership could be the reason a young professional thrives, so we would be delighted to have you onboard.

Why Sign up as a Mentee?

If you’re newer to the heavy lift or project cargo sector, this is an opportunity you simply won’t want to miss. By joining the mentorship scheme, you’ll gain direct, one-to-one access to an industry expert who will walk you through a real, live project as it unfolds, sharing insights, explaining decisions, and giving you practical knowledge you won’t find in any manual or training course. Each weekly call is a chance to ask questions, build your confidence, understand real challenges, and see exactly how complex operations are managed from start to finish. Read our Handbook for Mentees and Guidance for Weekly Call.

Connecting Expertise Globally: The Power of International Mentorship

Opening this programme to members all over the world brings enormous value to both mentors and mentees. Project cargo and heavy lift operations vary widely by region, different regulations, port capabilities, equipment availability, cultural expectations, weather conditions, market pricing, and logistical challenges all shape how projects are managed. By connecting members internationally, mentees gain exposure to a far wider range of real-world scenarios than they would ever see within their own borders. They learn how projects are approached in different parts of the world, how teams adapt to local constraints, and how global best practices are applied in diverse environments. For mentors, it’s an opportunity to showcase their expertise on a global stage and contribute to raising standards across the entire membership.

Plus, for the network as a whole, it reinforces our core strength: genuine worldwide collaboration and knowledge-sharing that helps every member, no matter their location, grow stronger, smarter, and more connected.
