Topline Show How Packaging Can Save Costs

Topline Express Logistics are a well-established logistics provider in China and have been PCN representatives since July 2011. They have recently handled several projects that were packed or re-packed by the company to save logistics costs as shown by the 2 examples below.

Topline were asked by PCN members in Ecuador, Schryver, to ship 2 wooden cases of machinery from Shanghai to Guayaquil in one 40' flat-rack. Martin Zhao (President) states "The shipment terms were FOB and the ocean freight was to be paid by the consignee. We checked the dimensions of the cargo and found we could save substantial costs if the wooden cases could be stacked. Therefore, we informed Schryver of our proposal to reinforce the cases to make them stable for stacking. As the new cost was much less, Schryver del Ecuador put their trust in our planning and our packaging people did a great job. The shipment was shipped stacked in a 20' flat-rack and around US$6,000 in ocean freight was saved for the consignee." Photographs of the reinforcement operation are shown below.

Topline have a German customer based in Shanghai who manufacture tyre productions machines for customers such as Michelin and Continental Tyres. Martin Zhao explains; "They used to ask two different companies to handle their packaging and logistics separately. The packaging company's only concern was the safety of goods - they didn’t pay much attention to the dimensions of the packages. So each time the machinery was exported, the logistics company had to use 12 x 40'HQ's to load all the different sized parts.

When we were invited by the customer to offer packaging and logistics solutions, we re-designed the packaging processes to ensure a more economical fit of the cargo into the containers. Now, we ship the same amount as before using only 10 x 40'HQ's. We saved our customer not only the ocean freight cost, but also the total logistics charges from the shipper’s door to the consignee’s door including trucking & port charges, THC etc." The below photos show the packaging and container loading of the tyre production machinery.
