Sovereign Logistics (PCN Kenya) was contracted to charter a suitable vessel, handle the ship in Mombasa port, customs clear and arrange the delivery of a cement plant (841 tons) from Mombasa port to Nairobi.

Scope of Work
- Vessel charter through our parent company in Mombasa, Express Shipping
- Import customs clearance
- Receiving/ discharge supervision of the entire cement plant from the vessel
- Arranging for inland transportation from Mombasa port to Nairobi through a low bed trailer to match height and road axle weight limitations

Accomplishments
- Overall synergy of vessel chartering, ships handling, discharging, customs clearance and road transport delivery
- Smooth documentation with various authorities, e.g. Kenya Port Authority, Kenya Revenue Authority etc. for timely direct loading on ships berthing
- Direct release from customs authority due to our AEO certification
- Direct loading from the ship
- Smooth trucking from Mombasa to Nairobi

Challenges
- Axle limit- Kenya National Highway Authority regulations on axle load limit
- Due to dimension, out of gauge cargo required a low loader, advance permit and vehicle escort, moving only during day time
- To arrange for delivery within set time
- Engineers flown in and waiting to install the plant
