Europe Cargo & Coordinadora Collaborate on Big Project
14th November 2014
Europe Cargo in Belgium were established in 1992 and are a founding PCN member. They are currently handling the 'TOTAL Optara B Project' in Antwerp along with Coordinadora Internacional de Cargas, founding PCN member in Spain.
The vessels (both conventional and submerge-able RO/RO carriers) were chartered by Coordinadora and loading took place at Tarragona port in Spain to be transported to Abes in Belgium (quay 363) where Europe Cargo are handling the discharge, long-term storage, preparing of the modules for road transport and the actual movement. The Optara B project is one of the biggest transportation operations ever undertaken on the Antwerp roads and will run to around 180 days in total. Heavy lift units weighing up-to 1,000mtns are being trucked via the Scheldelaan road to TOTAL's final site.
Overall, 34 modules will eventually be moved from Spain and the first vessel carried 9 modules. The first module to be discharged made its road transportation in Antwerp by night. Photographs of the operations including the arrival at the TOTAL site are shown below.
