Balena Projects Transport Heavy Press Machine to North America
30th January 2025

Balena Projects are pleased to showcase one of their recent movements involving the transport of a heavy press machine.
This transport saw the machinery imported from the Far East to North America via the Great Lakes ports.
The project included chartering a vessel to transport 96 crates containing dismantled components of the press machine, including multiple heavy-lift pieces weighing up to 185,000 kg each.
Key highlights of the operation:
- Two days of direct discharge: Utilizing tandem cranes to lift six heavy pieces safely and efficiently.
- Five days of inland transportation: Delivering the equipment to the job site, where a 500-ton gantry crane was used for offloading.
- Transloading onto an SPMT: Required due to limited space at the assembly facility.
- Final assembly: A detailed process spanning two weeks to complete the reassembly of the press machine.
"This project demonstrates our capability to manage complex logistics, heavy-lift operations, and precise handling requirements, all while meeting tight schedules and overcoming operational constraints."
