Afriguide Logistics Deliver High-Value Helicopter
2nd March 2016
The team at Afriguide Logistics in South Africa were pleased to be selected to handle the delivery of a brand new 'Augusta Westland 189' helicopter to a local customer in Pretoria.
The extremely high-value helicopter arrived in Durban on a Mafi trailer by RoRo vessel and had to be unlashed and crane lifted onto road transport for the 600km journey to Pretoria (photos shown in the thumbnail gallery below).
Director at Afriguide, Brad Stephens explains; "The 189 model is a very recent addition to the Augusta Westland range and has very exact handling requirements. For example, it travels with its own special lifting hooks which must be attached to the rotor hub in a specific fashion for crane lifting. The main body of the helicopter is 14.6m long by 3.13m wide and 4.04m high with a weight of nearly 6tns – which for a civil aviation helicopter is rather large.
A machine so fragile and valuable is nerve wracking to handle but we are pleased to report that the operation ran smoothly and the helicopter was delivered safely and on-time to its receiver."
