2nd Heaviest Unit Ever Moved By Coordinadora

Coordinadora recently managed the transport operation of an EO Reactor with 1320 Mt weight for Sadara Chemical Company in Saudi Arabia.

Arancha Ruiz explains "To guarantee the successful transport of this very heavy and oversized unit from L&T Facilities in Tapti River at Hazira, Gujarat (India) up to Jubail Industrial City in KSA, our in-house Engineering Department deeply studied the operational theater and the unit particulars, and selected the most adequate transport means, including SPMT vehicles, towed barge and the most powerful heavy lift vessel in the world. Our technicians also made and supervised the necessary calculations and finally defined the transport details needed. On a first stage, the Reactor was rolled in on a 63 m length barge, using SPMT 24 double axle vehicles, through the berth’s Ro-Ro ramp where it was also necessary to add an additional steel ramp for negotiating the height difference between the ramp and the deck. The barge was duly prepared with spreading structures and stools due to the huge load of the Reactor.

It was necessary to wait for the highest tide period of the month for sailing out the loaded barge and it was assisted by three tugboats up to the Port, where the cargo was taken on board by the ships’ cranes.

On a second stage, the vessel sailed without any incident and the Reactor was unloaded in the Persian Gulf on time. At port, SPMT 24 triple axle vehicles were ready to collect transport the unit and it up to site, with one special challenge: extremely heavy rains in the desert welcomed the Reactor to site, and only the correct provision of axles by COORDINADORA turned a possible tragedy in a complete success. In spite of this being the second heaviest unit for COORDINADORA, attending to the technical complexity and environment, this operation may be considered a milestone in our recent history."
